MassArt Fashion Design Showcase 2023

Revival

ABDULLAH ADISA  / Omo Fulani / aoadis.aa@gmail.com / @adis.aoa
Birthed from intense feelings of isolation and frustration, Omo Fulani is a tradition inspired contemporary menswear collection. It reflects on the conservative image of masculinity across two different Nigerian tribes, as well as considering the influence of western tailoring on its modern day look. Omo Fulani aggressively questions that image and its demands, while creating room for more expressive definitions of masculinity in clothing.

For this collection I was heavily inspired by the Medieval and Renaissance revivals during the 1960s and the desire for escapism that caused them. I'm also fascinated by bits of history, specifically the more peculiar and forgotten ones such as Victorian mourning jewelry, lover’s eyes, and flower language.

HAYLEY ANSIN EHRENFELD / Finding a New Polaris / Hayleyehrenfeld@gmail.com/
I have found myself drawn towards the concept of time whether manifesting through my love of science fiction or fashion history. I took my senior thesis as an opportunity to dig into the knowledge I have accumulated and combine it into a collection of costumes for a sci-fi film with a focus on costume throughout history, continuity of the self, and the relationship between clothing and comfort. This is my own golden record, please listen to my greeting .

NICHOLAS COOK / Real Life / ndcook@massart.edu
My collection “Real Life” is based off, you guessed it, real life. My Real Life. Real Life focuses on my time being and interacting with homeless people in and around New York City. With a focus on re-styling common ready to wear garments in a new and interesting way. Real Life is not “fashion” at all. It is a focus on the canon of New York homelessness mixed with staples of iconic New York culture. It is the antithesis of ready to wear, born from necessity, NOTHING EXTRA. This is Real Life.
